This video provides a step-by-step illustration as to how you can replant your coral reef and help restore its structure, biodiversity and resilience. Your guide is Pak Ketut Sutama, our Community-Based Marine Stewardship Leader in The Coral Triangle.

Living broken coral fragments can be transplanted back onto reef substrate, thus accelerating years of growth towards reef restoration. In the case of NW Bali, where this technique was pioneered, we use local cement that the local divers can easily obtain and effectively replant the corals.

The original idea was developed during the building of the Biosphere 2 Project in Arizona. Since Arizona is in the mid-west of the United States, we brought coral from Akumal Mexico (in trucks outfitted with aquarium systems) and transplanted the colonies into the ocean securing then colonies with epoxy.
